Kumbh Mela holds the record for the largest public gathering this gathering is so big that you can notice the crowd from space.

The religious story behind Kumbh is that when  Kalasha (pot of nectar for immortality) was recovered from the churning of primordial ocean for which a tensed war between God and Demon ensued. The few drops landed on 4 places where Kumbh happens.

According to astrologers, Kumbh Mela starts when the Jupiter enters Aquarius and the Sun enters Aries. Kumbh Mela is one of the most sacred festival in India.

It takes place at the following four locations of India:

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) ,

Haridwar (Uttarakhand) ,

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) and

Nasik (Maharashtra)


The pilgrimage takes place 4 times every 12 years, once at each of the above mentioned location. If you are also planning to visit Haridwar to participate in this festival, you must plan your journey well in advance and need to take care of some important things. Haridwar yaatra is pious in many aspects and Kumbh Mela increases the importance of this place to much extent.
